Tales from the tour, with Oliver Tabor

The sensational West End Magic show started its life in Deptford’s Albany Theatre back in 2007 when it was called A Night of Magic. It’s grown dramatically since and is now one of the UK’s longest running theatre magic shows, with audiences flocking to venues all over the country to see it.

We caught up with its star Oliver Tabor as he prepares for the 2025 tour.

What first sparked your love of magic?

It all started with a visit to Hamleys toy shop on Regent’s Street, London when I was 10 years old (Oliver please confirm your age) and was given a magic set for Christmas. I’ve never looked back.

What is your magic style?

I perform elegant and visual magic silently to music. It’s slightly mysterious, playful, but very magical.

Oliver please tell us what West End Magic is all about?

The show features award-winning magic, illusion, comedy, mind reading and a range of entertainment from some of the UK’s best magic and variety acts.

Who is the show for?

Magic has a universal appeal doesn’t it? Our job is to make magic accessible and engaging for all audiences. The show is suitable for all ages, from 5 to 105! It’s a fun, feel good outing for the whole family.

Without giving anything away, what can audiences expect to see when they come to see the show on tour?

There’s a huge variety of content in each show: There are two main acts; myself and comedy magician Wayne Trice. Then we also have a selection of guest acts on each show, such as magicians, jugglers and ventriloquists. I won’t spoil the surprises but I’ll just say this; bubbles are magically transformed, a white cloth is brought to life, and there’s an escape attempt.

Have you had to make any changes to the show for the tour?

The show is constantly evolving, and this year is no different with some new acts added into the mix. We tailor the show to each venue depending on the size of the building and how much we can physically fit through the door!

What are you most excited about taking the show on tour?

It’s a huge treat to take the show on tour and perform to more audiences each year – I never take that for granted. What a privilege to be on stage at some of the country’s most beautiful theatres and meet fabulous people across the UK.

It feels very special that the show has a permanent home in London at the Leicester Square Theatre, and that is London’s longest running theatre magic show.

Do you have a favourite act or trick in the show?

One of my favourites is an act where I turn a child from the audience into a magician. I love watching their face light up when they make the magic happen!

Describe the show in one sentence or 3 words?

Award-winning magic, comedy and variety!

Have you got any advice for people aspiring to be a magician?

Magic can be extremely rewarding – and challenging at times, as any career can be. But you get to do what you love. The best advice I can give is to love what you do!

Thanks Oliver. Lastly, where can we find out about your 2025 tour dates?

Dates will be announced in February, watch this space. We’d love you to join us and experience the magic for yourself!
