It’s been over just over a month since West End Magic took a summer break, and it will be another month till it’s back on the stage.
Our last show at the Taunton Brewhouse in Somerset featured the core WEM cast and crew: Wayne Trice, JeZo, stage manager AJ, some bloke called Oliver Tabor and the last performance of the year with Vicky Butterfly.
Next month we take to the road again for our next show at the Woodville Halls, Gravesend on Saturday 27th September.
So, whilst we’re all taking time to enjoy the sun, fix props, clean costumes and generally take a breather, I thought it would be nice to take a sneaky peek backstage to show what it takes to run the show.
None of this would be possible without our fantastic stage manager AJ Green.
A highly accomplished magician himself (and cuber) AJ has been involved in running the show behind the scenes since the show’s inception in 2013.
\Working alongside the other crew and cast, and liaising closely with theatre staff and crew, AJ makes sure music, lighting, and visual changes are always cued and engaged on time, and props and furniture are set and cleared.
No detail passes his attention; he is often found setting up cables, moving kit and props in and out of the theatre, filming pre-show videos and live event shots. In short, he makes sure the show runs without a hitch.
While we’re talking behind the scenes, I feel it’s very important to give a shout out to the hard working stage technicians and crew.
These teams are not often seen throughout and generally wear black to conceal themselves as much as possible, but we know that there would be no show without them!
We see you backstage crew – thank you for all your hard work.
For the time being, lets enjoy the rest of the sunshine our summer has to offer.
